Paul Merson states Liverpool have no prospect of moving through the Premier League season unbeaten despite their superb start to the year — and also ponders whether or not Mauricio Pochettino has taken Tottenham as much as he can…
Liverpool will not go unbeaten, not a opportunity. What Arsenal did all those years before, that is some going. What Liverpool are currently doing, winning all these games on the trot, however, is ridiculous.
They were not great the other day. They looked like the team which may nick that, although Liverpool did not deserve to lose when Leicester got to 1-1. They had been the better team, but they kept on going and you have to get some breaks every now and again.
Recall the penalty and no-one is going to look back on October 5, but that spot-kick couldve been a gigantic, gigantic objective.
Everyone forgets about what happens from October and November If you win league names. Everybody thinks about what happened in May or April, however, the penalty could be massive in the circumstance of the title race.
Liverpool are now one win away from equalling the all-time record. Theyve got Manchester United at Old Trafford and Tottenham at Anfield from the two games as they bid to the 2017 listing of Manchester City.
These were their hardest two matches when the fixtures came out. They are their two games that are most easy on paper. But Manchester United is known by you. This will be their cup last and they cant be that bad again, is it?
United will be under pressure but will Liverpool. When youre up at the top you need to be certain to keep on winning.
At the beginning of the season you are looking at this game and thinking a point at United is a good result. You dont understand how bad United are likely to be and youve got a tiny plan in regard to what points you expect for you over the way. Liverpool are today. They have got points in which they likely thought they werent likely to get them a draw would be okay for Liverpool in this match.
If the negative of Jurgen Klopp took four things I believe Manchester City will be in significant trouble.
What Liverpool are currently doing today, it is more than striking. They couldve easily rested on their laurels. They did nothing wrong in the group, but another group proceeded to win 14 games and they was only pipped at the post.
They did not, although they couldve easily felt accountable for themselves. Theyve come back and been outstanding.
Theres a gulf in class in this league and once in a blue skies underside will conquer very top, but to do what they have done, week in, week out and winning football games is extraordinary.
They arent currently drawing on football matches. Theyre winning each week like players are being used by them, and its not. They have got points at the bank now, although I think when Sadio Mane Mohamed Salah or Virgil van Dijk got injured they could struggle.
I have said before that this side isnt getting beat by any side in the bottom half and also two teams in the half have defeated Manchester City . Theymay manage a slide or there andve got the points. Liverpool could be beaten by manchester City and it wouldnt really make a difference. Its all in their hands.
Theres still a long way to go.
Youve just got to have a bad day at the office and it can unravel. I did the game on Liverpool and also Saturday shaded it. They were the better team and were comfy, but in regards on 1-1 the left breaks down and when there is a final move Leicester get in and could lead 2-1. It is a different game .
We are taking a look at a weekend then and I dont think the pressure would have been around Manchester City as much as it was. Their match becomes a bit different also.
There are 30 games. It is still a long way and it takes a few choices there or here to alter everything. There are 90 points offered and that a great deal of points.
But I say it all the time, you can be the best director in the world but in case you have not got the players it doesnt make any difference. Pep Guardiola, whos currently playing with Fernandinho in has not got the players.
Fernandinho will get found out eventually. For them not to go and purchase somebody when they have a nation is an absolute joke. They need to have four or three players in each place.
I really dont wish to say its the name because theres quite a way to go to throw away of Liverpool. Whoever has won the league but it is going to be hard for anybody to grab them, if they keep on doing what theyre doing.
The players needed the title last year, snatched from them. It was taken away from them after Man City won 14 soccer games and one was stuck by Vincent Kompany in the top corner from 30 yards. Liverpool know things can happen. This Manchester City team may get on a roll and roll off 10 over the trot so theres a long, long way to go.
Times for Tottenhams worrying.
Since if they lost 7-2, I did see an awful lot wrong with that, I was for them the other day. I thought since that game couldve gone either way, they have lots of criticism for no reason.
Spurs had opportunities in the first half and they could have been three or four up in half-time. At 4-2 they were still in the game, however they are actually cost by a five minutes. Because I believed it wasnt as bad as everybody made out, I supported them.
But what was an absolute joke. It was a joke that is worrying, stressing.
In soccer terms, for brushed aside and blown off by Brighton was a tragedy. As it receives on the soccer field, it had been worrying.
People said to me after the Bayern match that Pochettino looked a bit calm. Because the game was saw by him, he was calm and it wasnt as bad as what it seemed. Just take the few minutes away and it is 4-2. You would sit back and think that the great game it was and that it couldve gone either way. But the match against Brighton has been a joke.
They should be extremely embarrassed. I believe the last time Brighton scored three goals in a game!
Its stressing times for Pochettino.
As a manager you get to particular stages in your profession and you may have a team as much as youre able to take them. You cant take them. Im not sure whats going on in Tottenham.
There are ways of losing soccer games which was not a great way. If I was the boss, I had sitting on Sunday afternoon thinking,Can the players ? . You seem another day when they went to Swansea.
They broke a gut and obtained a result for their manager, although they couldnt win a game for toffee and were bottom of their league. I look at that and I believe that those players are using the supervisor. They will run through a brick wall and arent mugging off that manager.
But when I consider that Tottenham team becoming chucked aside, and I mean brushed by Brighton, you would need to ask significant questions.
